Obituary

Carolann Lopez was born in Southampton hospital on Aug 4 1946. She grew up in Hampton bays and spent her summers helping run the snack stand and lifeguard stand with her parents Edward and Charlotte Lopez and her sister Joan.

After graduating Mercy High school in 1965 she completed her undergraduate work at Notre Dame college in Manchester New Hampshire.  While attending she was elected State president of the Student New Hampshire education association during her junior and senior year.  She represented the association at the SNEA national conferences in Minnesota, Texas, and Washington D.C.

In June of 1975 she received her masters of arts in Liberal studies from Dartmouth college in Hanover, New Hampshire. She also held post graduate credits in Archaeology, biology, Marine Biology, children's literature, history and natural resources

After finishing up her studies she taught second grade for one year in Westhampton until the air base closed. After that she taught for 35 years in Bellport as a sixth-grade science and social studies teacher. She married in 1980 and had a son 1984. In 1988 she was nominated and elected into the Beta Xi chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma Society international.  She retired in 2005 to take care of her mom.

In her Retirement years she enjoyed her old 4-H loves of sewing quilting, weaving, knitting, and cooking. She also frequently visited the Hallockville Farm in riverhead for Square-dancing, farming and to volunteer caring for the animals.

After a battle with cancer she passed away in her sleep at home at the age of 75. She was survived by her son and grandsons whom she loved.

Carolann was an Au+H2O girl till the end!
