Eileen
Stephens
May 26, 1928 — Oct 28, 2021
Eileen M. Stephens (nee Niddrie) passed away peacefully on October 28, 2021, at the age of 93. She was the beloved wife of the late John J. Stephens and loving and beloved mother of J. Scott Stephens and wife Glenda, Jeffrey Stephens and wife Marie, Janeene Chrisbacher and husband Carl, Jill Bohrer and husband Dave, and Judy Riggie and husband Andy. Loving grandmother of Kristina Giasi and husband Bill, Anna Bohrer, David Bohrer, and Anneliese Chrisbacher, and Great-Grandmother of Lily and Lucy Giasi. Her family was her pride and joy and she lived a long and fulfilling life surrounded by them.
Eileen was born and raised in Valley Stream, NY. She attended nursing school at Adelphi University. She met John Stephens and in 1947 they married and began to start a family. She continued working evenings as a telephone operator with NY Bell until 1953 when she became a full time Mom, staying at home to raise her children. She became a Cub Scout den mother, Girl Scout leader, and was an active member of St. James Lutheran Church in St. James, NY, while the family lived in Stony Brook. She volunteered at the church's Adult Day Care program and was a member of the quilting and sewing groups. She was a very talented and prolific seamstress and baker, and also enjoyed a good mystery and her afternoon tea. She shared her talents and love for sewing, crocheting, needlework, and baking with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Over the years Eileen and John had many opportunities to travel the world, and cruises were her favorite, especially when the whole family was able to travel with them.
