George Paul Tetzel, of Red Creek Hampton Bays, died January 20 at home after a long illness. He was 90 years old.
Born in New York City, he was a veteran of World War II. George returned home earning a Bachelor of Arts Degree at Columbia University. He worked in the publishing business at D. Appleton & Company.
He built a summer home in Red Creek, Hampton Bays (1960). In the 1970s, George left his position at Appleton to live in Hampton Bays full time, where he established the antique and collectible store "Ada's Attic" with Robert Scott Jones, Jr. The Town of Southampton has since acquired this site, restoring the building as the historic landmark "Prosper King House" under the stewardship of the Hampton Bays Historical & Preservation Society.
George was born in New York City in 1927. His parents were the late George Tetzel, an illustrator for The Daily News, and Sarah McPhee Tetzel. Partner Robert Scott Jones, Sister Joan and husband Oscar Homolka, brothers Jack and Robert predeceased him. He is survived by sister-in-law Ulla Tetzel, niece Brigitta Grimm and husband Richard and their daughters Allison, Katrina and Kyle LaVoie their son Grayson.
