Jack Daniel Capone of Hampton Bays passed away on July 25, 2019 in Southampton at the age of 95 years. Born in the Bronx, NY at about age one moved to Hampton Bays with his parents and older brother. Pre-deceased by his wife of 63 years, Rosemarie, his parents Mary and Daniel and his brothers Daniel, Andrew and Anthony. He is survived by his devoted son John, sisters Josephine, Theresa and many nieces and nephews.
Jack was a Past Chief of the Hampton Bays Fire Department, past Assistant Secretary to the Hampton Bays Board of Fire Commissioners assisting Secretary Howard Bussanih who was bedridden. He was Past President of the Southampton, East Hampton, Shelter Island Towns Fire Chiefs Association, Past President of the Hampton Bays High School Alumni Association, Past President of the Hampton Bays Lions Club, served on the Hampton Bays Board of Education and the Southampton Town Council. Inactive member of both the Hand-Aldrich Post American Legion and the Dunes Post VFW. Proud veteran of the U.S. Army Corp. of Engineers during World War II serving 18 months in Europe.
With his father and brothers he constructed or remodeled over 1500 residential and commercial buildings in the towns of Southampton, East Hampton, Riverhead and Southold. A strong supporter of the silent majority residents of Hampton Bays, he wrote may letters to the Press and Independent criticizing the vocal minority who wanted complete changes in Hampton Bays.
Visiting for Jack Capone will be on Monday, July 29, 2019 from 2-4pm & 7-9pm. A Firematic Service will be at 7:30pm followed by a American Legion Service.
A funeral mass at St. Rosalie's Church is scheduled for Tuesday, July 30th at 10:30am. A burial in Calverton National Cemetery will follow the mass.
