Jean Josephine DeBenedette

October 8, 1946-December 25, 2022

Jean Josephine DeBenedette passed away peacefully at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital where she spent her final month after a courageous three-plus year battle with cancer. She was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York graduating from Utrecth High School in 1964. Jean then moved to Long Island with her parents Vera and Domenick Barbaro.

She commuted daily to Manhattan for 42 years where she worked for the Equitable Insurance Company as a Case Investigator. Jean retired in 2004, just after marrying Marcel DeBenedette, a retired history teacher from Hampton Bays where they shared the last 19 years.

Jean was predeceased by her parents Domenick and Vera and is survived by her sister Marie and husband Dominick Desimone of Bellport, NY. She leaves two nephews: Anthony and Dominick and wife Andrea and their two children Alexa and Domenick Rocco DeSimone. She is also survived by her niece Donna DeSimone.

Jean is also survived by husband Marcel's children Nathaniel and his wife Bari DeBenedette of Hampton Bays, Larissa and her husband Christopher Reily of Massachusetts and predeceased by Matthew DeBenedette.

Jean especially loved pizza and was a fabulous cook who hosted many holiday and family dinners. She enjoyed cruising with her husband Marcel. Their ten days in Hawaii was a favorite travel destination. Jean was a regular member of Saint Rosalie's of Hampton Bays until Covid and her sickness hindered her attendance.

Visiting hours will be on Friday, December 30th from 2-4pm & 7-9pm.  A Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for Saturday, December 31st at 10:30am from St. Rosalies Church in Hampton Bays.  Jean will be interred at Good Ground Cemetery following the mass.
