John C. Dekas of Hampton Bays passed away on February 15, 2023 at the age of 86 years. John was born in Boston, MA to the late James and Anna (Clancy) Dekas. He grew up in Boston then joined the United States Air Force in 1954. After 20 years of service and many years of being stationed at locations around the world, John retired in 1974. He settled with his family in his wife's hometown of Hampton Bays where he began a second career in Insurance and Financial Planning. John is a Past Commander of the American Legion Post 924, he was an active member of the Suffolk County American Legions and was a member of the Board of Governors of the Veterans Administration Volunteer Services.
John is survived by his wife Patricia Ann (Micari), children Dione (Dan) and John (Stacey) and daughters Bridget and Brenda from a previous marriage. He is also survived by nine grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. John was predeceased by his brothers Donald, James, Robert and Francis as well as his sisters Harriet, Constance, Theresa and Agnes.
Visiting hours will be on Monday, February 20th from 2:00PM - 4:00PM & 7:00PM - 9:00PM. A Mass of Resurrection will be on Tuesday, February 21st at 10:30AM from St. Rosalie's Church in Hampton Bays. A burial in Good Ground Cemetery, with Military Honors, will follow the mass.
Donations in John's memory may be made to Southampton Animal Shelter Foundation.
