Obituary

John Opulente was born in Brooklyn on September 18, 1962 to Millie & Mike Opulente with big sister Tina 4 years older. John lost his dad at 4 years old so he & Tina were raised by a very loving working single mom with a huge extended Italian family, the Bulones, who were there to support and help them. He had many Aunts, Uncles and first cousins in & around Brooklyn who he LOVED hanging out with as kids and even more so as adults. Family was important to him, but so were his friends growing up, especially Phil, Anthony, Alex, Mario and all the Bay 41st Street guys. Playing stick ball, skully and riding bikes, AFX cars then eventually realcars. Jcohn met Mary Ann in 1979 and they married in 1983, living in Brooklyn while John worked at Kennedy Airport for Pan Am until they went under then a service company. They welcomed Michael in 1989 and bought their first home in North Babylon. Joseph was welcomed in 1991, completing the family. John coached soccer for both boys then Little League for Mike. He loved spending time with his sons playing video games to this day. He shared his hobbies with them including collecting cards, gaming, RC cars, helicopters & boats, anything fun. He was working for an airline service company on 9/11 and was downsized from his job and they moved to Hampton Bays. He then attended Culinary school and at age 40 he became a Chef at The Coast Grill in Southampton. He worked there until Wild By Nature in Hampton Bays opened and he became the Head Chef for them. John LOVED to cook at home and could whip up a delicious meal with whatever happened to be in the fridge. His son Joey and fiance Stephanie had their first child Salvatore Anthony in November 2020 and John was OVER THE MOON HAPPY to be a grandpa. He spoiled Sal and loved him so much. Then he got injured in 2022 and was unable to work so he retired in disability. Then Vincenzo Francis arrived in 2023 and grandpa and grandma were overjoyed. They love their Vinnie! John and Mary Ann began planning for retirement in 2025 and found their Perfect retirement property in Kentucky. They closed in November 2025 and were planning to move in November 2026, when Mary Ann would retire at 65. Another Blessing arrived in Luciano Joseph on St. Joseph’s Day this year. John & Mary Ann visited and met Luciano in April and fell instantly in Love! John wasn't feeling well for a couple of weeks in May and passed away very suddenly while sitting in his recliner watching a show and laughing, his favorite way to spend the evening. He and Mary Ann were talking one minute and the next he was gone leaving behind a grieving, heartbroken family. He will be Loved, missed and spoken of often with affection by his family and friends. May John Rest in Eternal Peace in the Loving Arms of God.
