Obituary

Loving father and devoted husband, John Henry Pagac of Southampton, entered into rest on Monday, December 7, 2020. He was 78. A family service was held at Southampton Cemetery and arranged by R.J. O'Shea Funeral Home of Hampton Bays.

John, the youngest of five children of the late Joseph and Anne Pagac, was a life-long resident of Southampton, NY. He was retired from the long-standing family business, Joseph Pagac Inc., established around 1926 and at one time the largest wholesale beverage distributor on Eastern Long Island. He served in the Army National Guard, was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Elks Club, and in recent years he enjoyed delivering flowers and plants for Wittendales Florist in East Hampton. John was also active with St. Rosalie's Parish in Hampton Bays throughout his life.

His family will remember John as a selfless, proud, and modest man who loved his community, could pick up a conversation with almost anyone, and hardly ever complained about anything. He was always quick with a joke, loyal to his beliefs, and felt as comfortable around the kitchen as he did clamming barefoot in Shinnecock Bay. As a young man, John loved driving fast cars and owned a few classics - including a 1970 Ford Thunderbird Fastback which his kids remember sliding on the rear white leather seat cornering turns. He loved to travel and vacation with his family in early years, and later enjoyed living in NYC and visiting France almost annually since 2000. He brought home lots of stories and documented his trips with postcards and photos taken with his always handy disposable camera. He was meticulous with his belongings and property, tending to the garden inside and outside, taking care of his tools and records, and doting on his wife. This was how he lived and treated people in general that he loved and cherished.

John Pagac is survived by his wife of 48 years, Ann Marie Pagac of Hampton Bays, his daughter RoseAnn of Locust Valley, his son Joseph of Westhampton Beach, as well as three grandsons Dominic, Julian, and Luca. He is smiling down on us and diving into the coldest water he can find.
