Obituary

Mary Patricia Rowe, affectionally known to her family as Tricia — or simply Trish to many — and known to friends and coworkers as Pat, passed peacefully on May 23rd,2026 at Kanas Center of East End Hospice in Westhampton Beach, surrounded by her family

Born on November 23, 1939, in The Bronx, Tricia was the first child of Martin and Mary Patricia Gately, lovingly known as Gates and Rhea. She spent nearly her entire life on Long Island, ultimately making her home in the communities of Westhampton Beach and East Quogue. She cherished the beach, the beauty of the East End and the close-knit community she was proud to call home.

Tricia worked for many years in medical billing before spending time with her grandchildren in Connecticut and helping care for her nieces’ children in Manhattan and Westhampton. Strong, resilient, and deeply devoted to family, she was happiest surrounded by those she loved most.

A lifelong lover of the beach, Tricia especially enjoyed sunny afternoons by the ocean and was known among family and friends for her talent at true “sun worshipping” whenever the weather allowed. She also had a lifelong passion for snow skiing, making annual ski trips a treasured tradition for her children while they were growing up. That love of skiing continued throughout her adult life and brought her great joy alongside her husband, John Rowe, and later her grandchildren.

Tricia was predeceased by her husband, Michael O’Brien, with whom she shared many years of marriage. In later years, she reconnected with childhood friend John Rowe of Levittown. What began as a chance reunion became a loving marriage that brought great happiness to both of them.

Tricia is survived by her loving husband, John Rowe; her children, Joey Garry (Dawn), Kevin Garry (Marisol) and Maureen Coogan (Joseph): Seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her siblings Michael Gately, Rosemary O’Neill, and Timothy Gately. She was predeceased by her parents Martin and Mary her brothers Kevin Gately, Martin Gately and Sister-in-law MaryEllen Gately.

Tricia will be remembered for her strength, resilience, devotion to family, and her love of the simple joys of life — especially the warmth of the sun, fresh ocean air, snowy mountain mornings, and time spent with those she loved.
