Obituary

Paul Joseph Rothenberg passed away peacefully in his sleep in his childhood home in Hampton Bays, next to his fiancé Bonnie Marchione on April 27th 2025.  He just celebrated his 60th birthday.

Paul Joseph Rothenberg was Born on March 9th, 1965, to mother Mary Rothenberg and father Henry Rothenberg in Queens, New York. Paul was the eldest of three siblings, having two wonderful younger brothers, Gary Rothenberg and Glen Rothenberg. Paul learned to live life, period. Do things. The more, the better. So Paul was gifted in many ways, he was a musician, hairdresser/hairstylist, carpenter, handyman and was great at everything he put his mind to, but he was especially gifted with Music! Paul began his passion for music at age 6 when he began taking classical piano lessons. He performed with his peers at the Hampton Bays Library. He continued piano lessons until age 12. He began playing drums at age 12. In his teenage years he began his passion for performing in many bands.

Paul was a talented and beloved drummer who brought joy and rhythm to countless lives and many bands and duo's across Long Island as well as Florida.  He was a prominent Musician in the local Eastern Long Island music scene, as well as Florida.. A former member of the 27 dollar band in his hometown of Hampton bays, who dedicated his life to the art of drumming, playing with passion and skill.  His most recent band was The Alien SurfDogs, in addition to duo gigs with multiple musicians.
Paul captivated audiences with his unique style of colorful patchwork clothing, and powerful rhythms. Paul surrounded himself with those he cherished, In October of 2019 he experienced love at first sight meeting his fiance at a gig in Hampton bays, and they have been inseparable ever since sharing love for each-other and music, art, and travel, filled with laughter, and shared dreams for their future. Paul truly loved music but his greatest love was for his family, fiancée, adopted daughters, friends and grandchildren. Paul is known for his kindness, his unwavering support, and his ability to bring laughter to even the darkest days. Above all Paul was an optimist. He loved to laugh. He loved to please. He was rarely, if ever, critical of people. He didn't have an unkind bone in his body. He filled his life with hope, even when there was little reason to hope. And if you were super lucky the optimism came in the form of encouragement and compliments. Paul's passion for life inspired hundreds of others, and his laughter echoed in the hearts of all who knew him. His vibrant spirit, infectious enthusiasm, remarkable drumming skills and rock solid work ethic, and love for everyone touched hundreds of people who had the privilege of knowing him.

Though Pauls journey on this earth has ended, his legacy of living life to the fullest will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know him. His spirit of adventure, his love for life, people and music, and his unwavering kindness will forever be remembered.

He is survived by his fiance Bonnie Marchione, mother Mary Rothenberg, father Henry Rothenberg, step father Richard O'Brien, step mother Jo Rothenberg, God Mother Aunt Bette Ann, aunts & uncles, brothers and sister-in laws Gary Rothenberg and Sarah Rothenberg and Glen Rothenberg and Stephine Rothenberg, brothers and sister in laws Anthony Porter, Elizabeth Gatewood, Richie Porter, Jessica Marchand, adopted daughter Sara, nieces and nephews, cousins  and grandchildren.

Paul's departure leaves an unfillable void in everyone's lives, yet he'd want us find comfort in the memories and everlasting love that were shared.  Paul was such a special man, he left his mark on everyone he met.

In lieu of flowers donations to The American Lung Association in Paul's name would be greatly appreciated.
