Peter D.
Digiacinto
Mar 16, 1948 — Sep 3, 2022
On Saturday, Sept. 3, 2022, Peter Dominic DiGiacinto, loving husband to Cindy DiGiacinto, and father of four children, passed away at age 74.
Pete was born on March 16, 1948, in Brooklyn, N.Y., to Vincent and Rose (Mandarino) DiGiacinto. He grew up in Massapequa Park on Long Island with his parents and younger sister, Maryellen. He attended the Brooklyn Polytechnic Institute (now Polytechnic Institute of New York University) and graduated in 1970 with a bachelor's degree in mathematics.
He enjoyed a long and distinguished career as a program manager for Grumman (later Northrup Grumman) for 37 years. He started as a computer programmer and supported the F-14 Tomcat flight tests for the U.S. Navy. He transitioned to Grumman's Data Systems division and managed numerous projects and teams over the years.
Early in his career, Pete supported a project in Germany, where he and his first wife Florence (Lynch) Nicoll had their first of three children, Michele. Together they had two more children, Lisa and Michael. He traveled for business to England and across the United States, but he spent most of his career at his home office on Long Island.
He was a dedicated father attending all his children's games, concerts, recitals, and field trips holding his camcorder in one hand and his camera in the other. He cherished his time with family and celebrated all of life's milestones. In his downtime, he was often found devouring the latest Stephen King book or the current issue of Time magazine. He loved the Yankees, thanks to his father, who was his biggest hero.
Later in life, Pete met his second wife Cindy while taking his mother dress shopping at Cindy's boutique in Center Moriches. They dated for several years and were married on September 26, 2010. They enjoyed traveling together with Italy and Key West, Fla., being among their favorite destinations. They also enjoyed the tranquility of the home they had built together in retirement, drinking their morning coffee outside surrounded by Pete's labor of love – his lush garden – admiring the latest blooms and the birds they attracted.
Pete is survived by his loving wife, Cindy DiGiacinto, his four children, George DiGiacinto (Chrissy), Michele Buisch (Richard), Lisa Holliday (Dustin), and Michael DiGiacinto (Kyson), and twin grandchildren, Adam and Addison Buisch. He is also survived by his sister Maryellen Dombrowski (Joe) and their two sons, Timothy and Brian, his sisters-in-law Elke Weber (Walter) and Nancy Macdonald (Rod), and his mother-in-law, Erika Berding. He was predeceased by his parents Vincent and Rose DiGiacinto.
A memorial service will be held Sunday, October 16, at R.J. O'Shea Funeral Home at 94 East Montauk Highway, Hampton Bays, NY 11946. Guests are welcome at 11 a.m.; the service begins at 11:30 a.m.
