Thomas Joseph "Tom" Carroll, 91, USMC, of  Merrick, NY, passed away on March 18, in his home, after a long struggle with COPD.

A private funeral mass will be held at Sacred Heart Church in Merrick on March 20, at 9:30 a.m. Interment will follow at Pine Lawn Cemetery.

Tom was born in Queens, NY, to Thomas and Helen (Lamoureaux) on January 5, 1929.  He graduated from Queens College. Tom worked as an industrial salesman and spent 50 years selling adhesive tapes.  He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, and a 57-year parishioner at Sacred Heart Church where he volunteered and attended daily mass.  For many years, Tom headed the Bishop's Annual Appeal, raising record-breaking sums for the charity.  Tom was a member of a Mid-Island barbershop chorus for many years. He was an avid gardener, a thoughtful neighbor and a generous host and friend.

Tom is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years, Mary (Morison), and five children: Mary Small, Anne Shapiro (Robert), Patricia Olds (David), Elizabeth McCawley (Michael), David Carroll (Lauren), eleven grand children: Emily Carroll, Anthony and Francis Buatti, Juliana and Claire Shapiro, John and Peter Olds, Samantha and David Carroll, Vincent and Fiona McCawley and 1 great-granddaughter, Gabriella Buatti. Tom was preceded in death by his son Thomas, and his own parents and siblings.

Tom will always be lovingly remembered and warmly appreciated for his kindness, charity, devotion to family and friends, and his stellar ability to tell a good joke.
