Vincent J
Handal
Jun 24, 1927 — Mar 6, 2020
Vincent J. Handal, age 92, of Hampton Bays, NY entered eternal life on March 6, 2020.
He leaves his wife of 65 years, Mary Jane; his children, Michael, Sister Kerry and Vincent, Jr.; his son-in-law, Michael; his brother and sister-in-law, Leonard and Margaret; his sisters-in-law, Eileen and Ann; numerous nieces and nephews; extended family and dear friends. Born in Brooklyn, NY to the late Michael and Jennette Handal, Vincent proudly served the Country in the United States Navy toward the end of World War II. After his military service, Vincent spent his entire working career as an executive of a family import business.
Residing in Flatbush, Brooklyn for the first 66 years of his life, Vincent enjoyed volunteering his time to the community. Among other things, Vincent served as a Republican District Co-Leader for many years and helped organize and run his neighborhood association. A longtime parishioner of Holy Innocents R.C. Church, Vincent served the Church over the years as an choir boy, lector, leader of song, Eucharistic Minister and member of the parish council.
After retiring to Hampton Bays in 1994, Vincent (most times with Mary Jane right by his side) became a tireless volunteer in their new community as well as their new parish of St. Rosalie's. In 2009, Vincent was awarded the St. Agnes Medal by the Bishop for his lifetime of service to the Church. And in 2012, Vincent was jointly honored by the Hampton Bays School District and the Hampton Bays American Legion for both his years of community service and his military service. Vincent's love of classical music led him to study at the Brooklyn Conservatory of Music. As well as Beethoven and other classical composers, Vincent enjoyed listening to all of the great vocalists especially Frank Sinatra and Lena Horne.
In addition to his late parents, Vincent was predeceased by his brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Emilia; his sister, Joyce; and his niece, Jenny.
In lieu of flowers, Vincent's family requests that you please keep them in your thoughts and prayers and, if you wish, a donation in Vincent's memory be made to the Sisters of St. Joseph, Mission Advancement Office, 1725 Brentwood Road, Brentwood NY 11717.
